Your Test Results
What if the test is positive?
A positive result means a polyp or bowel cancer may be present. Everyone who has a positive result will be contacted by their nominated Doctor, and should have further tests to find out whether they have bowel cancer. Most will not have the cancer, but some will, and early diagnosis will greatly improve their chance of a cure. Remember that there is a 90% chance of cure if the cancer is found at an early stage.
Your nominated doctor will be advised by our BowelScan Medical Coordinator within 4 weeks after submitting your sample for pathology.
If your Test is Negative:
This means that there was no blood detected in the specimen submitted. You will be advised directly by mail of negative results 8-10 weeks after submitting your sample for pathology testing. As not all polyps and cancers bleed and some may do so only intermittently, this result means that a significant bowel problem could still be present. For this reason, if you currently have rectal bleeding, alterations of bowel habit or crampy lower abdominal pain, or have a family history of bowel cancer, you are strongly advised to consult your local medical practitioner.
Even if your test is negative,
do plan to be tested each year.
